When staff are laid off without good reason, the first casualty is morale. Those who are left behind work under fear that it is just a matter of days before it's their time to be laid off
In some of these lay off exercise one of the biggest consequences is losing the best talent. Though the initiative may be well intended, there are instances when a company has to reluctantly let go of talent that would have done much more were it to be retained
Despite the had-no-option move, companies hope that the retrenched will not land in the hands of rivals for the kind of competition that will be unleashed in any CEO's nightmare
Currently, however, companies engage consultants to make them the mouthpiece of preconceived measures that are barely concealable to those who turn up daily to work and make the shareholders happy
Essentially letting go senior managers saves the company more than laying off the small fry.
